Mode of operation of translation agencies part 1

If you order a text from a translator, the situation is simple. One person is responsible for:

• marketing;

• customer service;

• valuation of translations;

• translating;

• verification of translations (proofreading);

• sending files to customers.

It is possible only when there are few orders and that is why translation agencies have a much more complex structure. The person, who you order a translation from, is usually not responsible for translating.

One of the most important people at a translation agency is a sales specialist. Thanks to them, you can easily establish contact with a translation agency and get a quote quickly.

A whole team of people work on you translation and provision of high quality. In addition to the person responsible for contacting the customer, there is also another person who oversees the process, i.e.:

Project manager

Correct organisation of work is necessary in the case of large orders. A project manager assigns tasks to individual translators, the result of this being a very efficient translation process. The manager responsible for a project ensures that you will receive your translation on time. In some cases, this person not only supervises the work of translators, but also sits down in front of a computer and translates themselves. Thanks to the project manager, a project can be divided among several people which will result in you getting your files faster. The manager has to divide the work among translators.

Translators

Translators usually work at home which makes it possible to save time on commuting to the office. Cases, when they are employed at a translation agency, are rare. Working from home has a lot of advantages – a translator can start translating your order as soon as they receive information from a project manager. They can also use their own computer with appropriate software. Translators, who cooperate with translation agencies, usually have access to the base of their previous translations via a virtual disk. Once a text has been translated, a translator verifies its correctness on their own and then sends it to an editor.

Editor

It is a person who checks a translation in terms of its correctness. They make sure that a translator used the right terms, maintained consistency in selection of terminology and did not make any mistakes during translation. Editing of translations is frequently done by other translators, since checking someone else's text is much efficient than one's own.
